Sample for November Workshop

At the beginning of November Chris and I will be taking a quilting workshop with Jan Krentz.  Jan does some remarkable quilts so I special ordered her book (because it was on the supply list) and decided to put together a sample of what we will be doing.  First thing I knew was that I did not want to make it into a huge quilt.  Huge is just too much work!  And second I wanted to play with my Kaffe Fasset stash that I've been collecting for years.

So...

The guild members were asked to vote on which design we wanted to learn and the majority picked this one.

The finished size was going to be 70" x 80"...and I just don't work that large.  So I halved the block size and trued up the blocks to 5 1/2".  This brought it down to a manageable size.

Four more rows to go!

I can't thank my husband enough for making me a design wall.  It has so come in handy!  Along with a great place to call my own for quilting!

Happy Quilting!

2nd Annual Oakland Quilt Show

Nothing is easier than getting a bunch of ladies together when they all have an interest in quilting then having a quilt show close to home.  Does it count that we never knew about the first Oakland Quilt Show so missed it last year.  Chris had a car load of ladies and my daughter, Sarah, and family came down for it from Portland.  (We sent the guys fishing!)

It didn't take us long to cross the street and start looking...

Not the biggest town in Oregon but .... one with lots of character. There were 100 quilts hung for the day and they went from very traditional to art quilts.

The girls were going to count the animals they found in the quilts.  After 100 they gave up.

This one was really cute and a pattern that we hadn't seen before.

Doris was the featured quilter and she is a member of the Umpqua Valley Quilt Guild.  She is one very talented art quilter.... this quilt was begun last year at the quilt retreat and is an original.  Doris does not use patterns when putting her quilts together.....she is amazing to watch as she works through design and color.

Bedtime in the barn...

and....a bit of silliness...

How many family members can you stuff in a phone booth?  In fact - when was the last time you saw a phone booth....

Happy Good Times!

A Visit from Kayla

Summer is here and so was Kayla for her first visit with us.  How fun to have a granddaughter around....  we painted and drew, we did a morning out to Swift Water Rec Area and then a walk up to the fish hatchery.

This is one of our favorite places to share....

While here we saw steelhead feeding and splashing and Papa Bill gave his "how to skip rocks" lesson.

The secret to skipping is finding just the right rock.... and then the right angle to throw it.

From here we walked up to the fish hatchery and fed the fry.

And saw the pet sturgeon also.

Next time we might even make it to the waterfall hike.

Kayla kept me company in the quilting loft...

While she finished a movie I worked on a 'color play' quilt.

All too soon it was Sunday morning and dad was picking her up for their trip to Las Vegas.  Hope to see you again Kayla!!!!

Happy Family Time.
